Pumpkin pom poms
Posted October 19, 2010on:
Halloween is fast approaching so get in the spirit with these super easy and cute pom pom pumpkins! The tying and cutting makes this an advanced beginner project but wrapping the yarn around the cardboard is great for tuning fine motor skills.
- A piece of scrap cardboard about 4 inches big
- Orange yarn
- Green chenille sticks
Step 3: Lay the piece of tying yarn flat on the table. Bend your piece of cardboard and slide it out from the middle of the wrapped yarn. Carefully place your wrapped yarn over the piece of tying yarn. Make sure the tying yarn is centered in the middle of your wrapped yarn (see picture).
Step 6: Trim the strings to shorten them and fluff the pom pom so that it takes a nice round shape. Then carefully trim the chenille stick so that it is proportionate to the pom pom. Curl one side around your finger or a pencil and bend the other to look like a stem.
Congratulations! You have made a pumpkin pom pom! Use it as a decoration or hang it from the zipper on your jacket to make a fun Halloween zipper pull. You can make a whole pom pom pumpkin patch by making larger and smaller pom poms. Simply cut a larger or smaller piece of cardboard for wrapping. Did you do this project? How did it turn out?
