Creative Crafts for Creative Kids

Archive for October 2009

It’s october which means, Halloween, ghosts, ghouls, goblins…..and pumpkins!  Here is an easy paper pumpkin that kids of all of ages can make.  It’s a great teaching tool to help little ones practice their cutting skills.

Pumpkin Craft 002

Things You will need:

  • Orange and green construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Stapler
  • Tape

Pumpkin Craft 003Step 1: Begin by cutting your orange construction paper into even strips

Pumpkin Craft 008Step 2: Begin laying the strips one on top of the other and taping or stapling them together.  Stapling is good for older kids, while tape is preschool friendly.  Position the strips of paper so that they begin to create a circle (something along the lines of the sun’s rays).

Pumpkin Craft 010Step 3: Begin bringing the loose ends together and taping or stapling them together as you did before.

Pumpkin Craft 011Step 4: Using your green construction paper cut out a few leaves and several skinny strips to use as vines.

Pumpkin Craft 013Step 5: Wrap the strips around a pencil to give them the look of vines.  Next, tape the strips and leaves to the top of your pumpkin.

Pumpkin Craft 014Congratulations!  You now have a pretty paper pumpkin perfect for decorating your home!  Did you do this project?  Did you do it differently?  Please share your comments and pictures in the comments section!
