Wintery snowman valentine

Posted on: February 14, 2010

Show someone how much you love them on Valentine’s Day with this cute paper snowman!  This project is a great beginner project that teaches shapes, numbers, colors, writing and cutting skills.

Things you will need:

  • Red, white, black, brown and orange construction paper
  • A pencil
  • Kids glue (a glue stick is best for younger kids)
  • Safety scissors
  • Washable markers

Step 1: Trace or draw and cut out the following shapes:

  • 8 small black circles (eyes, mouth and buttons)
  • 3 large white circles (body)
  • 2 long skinny brown rectangles (arms)
  • 2 short skinny brown rectangles (arms)
  • 2 short red rectangles (one a little smaller than the other) (scarf)
  • 1 orange triangle (nose)
  • 1 black rectangle (hat)
  • 1 black square (hat)
  • 1 red heart

Step 2: Using your safety scissors, cut a few slits about half way into the shorter red rectangle.  This will become the fringe on the scarf.

Step 3: Using your glue, glue each of the pieces together as shown.

Step 4: Glue the eyes, nose, mouth and buttons on as shown.  Practice counting out the black circles.  How many buttons does the snowman have?

Step 5: Glue on the arms, scarf and hat as shown.

Step 6: Using a marker in the color of your choice, write “You melt my heart” on your paper heart.  Next, glue the heart on to one of the snowman’s hands.

Congratulations!  You have made a wintery snowman valentine that is sure to warm someone’s heart!  Did you do this project?  How did it turn out?  Please feel free to share you comments and pictures in the comments section!
