Help ring in the first day of spring with this cute decoupage flowerpot!  It’s an advanced project that is pretty and functional.  Be careful though…This project can get messy!

Things you will need:

  • Colored tissue paper
  • Decoupage glue (or a mix of equal parts school glue and water)
  • A foam paintbrush
  • A small flowerpot
  • Soil
  • Flower seeds

Step 1: Rip your tissue paper into small pieces.  Ripping it will help the pieces adhere to each other better.

Step 2: Apply a thin layer of decoupage glue to the flowerpot.  Do this in small sections so it does not dry too quickly.

Step 3: Place a piece of tissue paper over the decoupage glue.  Press down lightly to avoid bubbles.

Step 4: Apply another thin layer of decoupage glue over the tissue paper.

Step 5: Repeat steps 3 and 4 over the entire flowerpot.  You can make any design you want on it.  My design is a spring scene with grass, flowers, the sun and the sky.  There is no wrong way to decoupage and you can’t mess up!  When you are finished add a final coat of decoupage glue over everything to seal it off.

Step 6: Let the flowerpot dry completely.

Step 7: Carefully add the dirt and seeds to the flowerpot.  Be sure to plant the seeds according to the directions on the packet.

Congratulations!  You have made a pretty spring flowerpot that’s ready to grow your favorite flowers.  Be sure to set it in the sun and water the seeds regularly so that they can grow!  Did you do this project?  How did it turn out?  Feel free to post your comments and pictures in the comments section.  Happy crafting!
