Fun 4th of July Banner

Posted on: June 26, 2010

Help celebrate the 4th of July with this fun banner.  It’s an advanced beginner project that teaches letter recognition, measuring, cutting, and stamping techniques.

Things you will need:

  • Red, white, and blue construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Yarn (red, white or blue)
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Silver  paint
  • Star stamp
  • Paintbrush

Step 1: Begin by drawing out “HAPPY 4TH OF JULY” in “block letters” on construction paper.  Alternate each letter in red, white, and blue.  Using a ruler, make sure that all of the letters are about the same height.  My letters are about 4 inches.

Step 2: Using your paintbrush, paint the stamp with silver paint.  Press the stamp several times on the construction paper in a random pattern.  It is ok if your letters are covered.

Step 3: Once the paint is dry cut out all of your letters.

Step 4: Cut a length of string and begin gluing your letters in place.  Once the glue is dry your banner is ready to be hung!

Congratulations!  You have made a fun 4th of July banner!  Use it to decorate your home for a 4th of July party.  When making this project you can even add sparkle with some glitter glue or sequins if you wish.  Did you do this project?  How did it turn out?  Share your comments and pictures in the comments section.  Happy crafting!
