Creative Crafts for Creative Kids

It’s almost time to go back to school which means new teachers, new buses and big changes!  Parents and their little ones can now ease their worries with these fun back to school “reminder cards.”  This is a great beginner project that will help kids (especially the younger ones) get excited and prepare for back to school.  There are several variations of this project but for the purpose of this post I have made a school bus card.

Things you will need:

  • Construction paper or card stock
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Markers
  • Ruler
  • Glue (optional)
  • Contact paper (optional)
  • Hole punch (optional)
  • Keyring (optional)

Step 1: Using your ruler and a pencil, draw the shape of a school bus on yellow construction paper.

Step 2: Use your markers to color in the details on your bus such as wheels and lights.  In the center of your bus write important information such as bus number, the driver’s name, and your stop address.  Cut out the outline of the bus.

Congratulations!  You’ve made a school bus “reminder card!”  If you want to make your reminder cards sturdier you can laminate them with contact paper before you cut them out.  Once laminated you can punch holes in them and put them on a keyring to hang on your backpack for the first day of school.

Besides school bus “reminder cards” there are plenty of other variations.  You can make a school house with room number and teacher information or warnings about allergies and other medical information.  You might also try making one in the shape of a telephone for emergency contact information.  The ideas are endless!  This is a really simple project to help younger kids feel more comfortable about starting school.  It’s an exciting time that shouldn’t be spent worrying about the little things.  Happy crafting!
