This Father’s Day nothing shows dad you care quite like a homemade present.  Show him how much you love him with this magnificent mail holder that will be sure to keep him organized!

Mail holder 001Things you’ll need:

  • Empty cereal box
  • Construction paper
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Glue or tape
  • Scissors
  • Markers or crayons
  • Stickers or other decorations (optional)

Mail holder 003Step 1: Using your ruler as a guide, draw a straight line from the top left corner of your box down to the right side of your box.  Do not go too low on the right side.  A good rule of thumb is to match the left corner of your ruler to the bottom corner of the box as shown, being sure to draw your line on the opposite side of the ruler.  Flip your box over and repeat.

Mail holder 005Step 2: Once all of your lines have been drawn, carefully cut them out.  Cut each diagonal line and then cut across the front.  Discard excess cardboard.

Mail holder 007Once cut, your box should look like the one above.

Mail holder 009Step 3: Using craft glue or tape, stick the colored paper of your choice to each side of the box.

Mail holder 010Step 4: Carefully cut around the excess paper.

Mail holder 014Step 5: Your box should now look like the one above.  Using markers, crayons, stickers, paper or any decorations of your choice, decorate the box.  Write “mail” on the front and back of your mail holder (the original skinny sides of the cereal box).

Mail holder 017Congratulations!  You now have a magnificent mail holder for dad (or yourself)!  You can use it to keep your mail organized on your desk.  It is fun and functional.  Did you do this project?  How did it turn out?  Please share your pictures and comments in the comments section!
