Is your school  pencil box overflowing with supplies now that it’s summer?  Do they  keep piling up with no place to go?  With this handy pencil organizer you can now keep your supplies nice and tidy on your desk.

Pencil holder 001Things you will need:

  • Empty can
  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Tape
  • Pencil
  • Markers
  • Ruler

Pencil holder 006Step 1:  Begin by removing the label from the can.  Using construction paper in the color of your choice, roll it around the can and mark the point just where the paper begins to overlap.  Using your ruler as a guide draw the rectangle that will eventually wrap around the can.

Pencil holder 007Step 2: Cut out your rectangle with scissors.

Pencil holder 008Step 3: Wrap the paper around your can.  Tape or glue the paper in place.  If the paper is too long at the bottom of the can, use your scissors to trim it.

Pencil holder 010Step 4: Using paper, markers and any other decorations, decorate your can.  If gluing additional strips of paper, be sure to line up your seams towards the back of your can.

Pencil holder 014Congratulations!  You have just made fun and funky pencil holder.  You can even make it to match your magnificent mail holder!  For my pencil holder I used a stencil to cut out the letters in the word “pens.”  Use your imagination or use stencils just like I did.  Did you do this project differently?  Please share your pictures and comments in the comments section!
